"So you're saying there's hope?"

I think I may have spoiled myself by choosing this couple to be my first “portfolio building” couples sessions. They were complete naturals in front of the camera - actually, they were just complete naturals around each other.

Their love story is one of my favorites. Great friends in college, moved away after college, only to be reunited years later where they fell in love & eventually got married. I told my brother that story & he says, “So you’re saying there’s hope?”

I’m saying there’s hope, bud. Photographing them this morning I could feel the love & that’s why I want to photograph couples in love. I’ve been so jaded over the years, but if I consistently see LOVE in my viewfinder.. I think my hard exterior will start melting away. :)

the first time I felt it

Up until this photo shoot, I wasn’t feeling all that comfortable with my camera. I had watched a YouTube video prior to this shoot & felt like I had that “A-Ha!” moment & I wanted to see what I could do.

I put a model call out & Jess immediately answered she was interested. All I could think was YAAAAS! First off, Jess is such a cool girl. We’ve hung out a handful of times & I just really genuinely like her. SECOND - She’s stunning. Like, whaaaat! I was so excited to capture her essence.

We met up on Mt. Washington & had a BLAST. I found this little off chute with these pretty white wildflowers & this awesome graffiti wall - plus the lighting was perfect. It was then it happened — I had goosebumps for the first time during a shoot. I was SO excited I actually had GOOSEBUMPS. I had no idea I could feel that way about photography, but here I was - FEELIN’ IT.

I came home, immediately edited them & thanks to a special set of presets - these photos came to life, gave me every tone I had ever envisioned for a photo shoot. It was the first time I actually felt like I could do this.

And I don’t think I’ve wanted to stop since :)
